The Fresh Prince of Bel-Fire
I’ve been inspired by my good friend over at FI Fighter who recently got all creative and posted a poem of prophetic proportion, which was of course on the subject of FI and his never ceasing march towards this goal. Read it here! He also mentioned The Fresh Prince in that post and it sparked the old noggin into remembering I wrote something a few months ago in a similar vein. So I thought the time was nigh to dig it out and share my gift with the world. Just a bit of fun really, hope it brings a smile to your face! π
An ode to MMM and ERE
Now this is a story all about how
My life got flipped turned upside down
So I’d like to take a minute, just sit in attendance
I’ll tell you how I came across a concept called financial independence
In…. west London, England, working for pay
In the office was where I spent most of my day
Meetings, competing, managers bleating non stop
If you want to get ahead you better work till you drop
When a couple of websites, came on the scene
Like mr money mustache and early retirement extreme
I read through one little article and my mind was blown
I realised my house could be a work and consumer sukka free zone!
I whipped all my finances and myself into gear
Started saving and investing now my future was clearer
If anything you could say a new passion was stirred
So I thought why not start a blog and help spread the word!?
I set up a blog, so many grand visions in my head
Of an ER movement starting right from my bed.
So let’s work, save, play and live smarter
And I hope you’ll all come join me, yours, theFIREstarter.x

pretty hilarious…I loved it! You need an audio version. I’m a big fan of fresh prince in bel-aire. Still watch the re-runs when it’s on.
It’s a brilliant show and even better theme tune!
Glad you found it funny Andrew π
Nice! I second Andrew, you need an audio version. Actually video!
Thanks Pauline. I’m waiting for the phone call from Will as we speak π
Very clever and funny! I agree with Andrew above – an audio version would be good π
Thanks! I’ll have to think about that one, I’m one of those people that hates hearing my own voice recorded. Also not sure my southern English tones suit the parody rap genre π
Absolutely love it!
This is my first visit to your site looks good!
Thanks BJ, glad you stopped by and liked my rhyming skillz!
This is pretty funny!!! I couldn’t remember the theme cos my head was filled with singing Prodigy’s Firestarter!!! It took a minute..lol! Perhaps a medley of the two. Nice blog!
Thanks!
You are the first EVER commenter to mention the Prodigy and therefore win the Keith Flint comment of the week award! Well done, in case you didn’t guess already I freakin’ love them!!!!
Yeah..! An award!!!! I think “fat of the land” would be in my top 10 desert island cd’s. I wish l had been clever enough to name my blog that..lol
I brainstormed a few ideas for the blog name and could not believe this one was still available… I was over the moon!
I prefer the older stuff (Experience etc) as I used to be a bit of a raver π but fat of the land still rocks as well.
but can you do the carlton dance?!?
Ha ha brilliant! He was on a reality TV show in the UK not long ago and ended up teaching the other contestants how to do it. It actually looks insanely hard!!! I’ll have to start practising before this hits the big time and we need to make a video
I absolutely love the Fresh Prince references and song, you sir made my day.
Glad to hear it Steven! π
