Welcome to theFIREstarter! If you are interested in themes such as Financial Independence, Retiring Early, Downshifting, or simply just working less and living more then please stick around, I think weβll get on just fine π
If all of that sounds right up your alley then you can follow along by:
If you'd rather have a poke around first then by all means do so! You can always subscribe later by using the link at the top right of the menu above.
If you want to get the full story you can start from the very first post here or for a more casual read, just see what catches your eye on the list of all posts page.
My thoughts and plans have slightly changed in the few years since I set up the blog, you can learn a little bit more about me and the main points on what those plans were and how they've changed here, here, here, here and finally here.
If you'd like to keep a track of new developments, money saving tips, money making tips, my adventures in attempting self sufficiency and simple living, free financial hacks and spreadsheets, and my general musings on Financial Independence, Personal Finance, investing, and the occasional humorous rant, then please consider following along. TFS Jr will have a lot more money to count sometime soon!
We had some great news the other day. And I mean super-fan-f**cking-tastic great news!
So apologies for the following post which probably shows the worst of human behaviours (greed, regret, entitlement… the list could go on). However, please bear in mind while reading that I am immensely grateful for the windfall in question, my gripe is merely on how the opportunity was presented to us in the first place.
It’s Marathon month again! (Watching this year rather than running)
Howdi my fellow FIREstarters! How was your month that we like to call “April”?
Ours was a fine one, we did pretty well on spending and income, and I had the first of many of my 2 weeks off work periods which are now spewed all over my summer calendar like some kind of regurgitated Ice Cream Sunday loveliness. With that really weird simile out of the way, apologies 1, and let’s move on to how the finances did and what we got up to.
With a great fixture list on this lovely Tuesday evening, I though I’d go above and beyond for you guys and get it out in time.
To be honest, I don’t think there is much in here that is revolutionary but hopefully it will give most people at least a couple of shortcuts and avoid some mistakes if they’ve never done it before and wanted to give it a crack.
I’m not going to literally do a step-by-step guide on how to do an accumulator because it’s horrendously easy. You just go onto OddsMonkey, select the bookie you want, then pick the matches on the list until you are happy with the odds and selections in there, and then offski to the bookmaker website and put the bet on. I am going to assume you are using the OddsMonkey website for choosing your Accas in this guide, because it is the best Matched Betting Software I’ve found out there. What’s more they don’t charge you extra for the extra features such as this No Lay Acca tool, whereas some of the other ones I’ve seen out there tend to do that. If you use one of the other ones, I am pretty sure the software is very similar and the tips below all still apply, so carry on reading either way! If you haven’t signed up to OddsMonkey yet you can do so here: Sign up to OddsMonkey (<– Referral link, OBVS)
Seeing as my last monthly update was so long I thought I’d do another mini update about a couple of random bits, along with a links round up of what I found interesting in the last month or so.
Brrrr!!!! What a cold, snowy and generally all round unpleasant month March was, if you don’t like cold weather that is! I happened to quite enjoy it for the most part, but it’s getting kind of old now. Roll on spring I say!
Hopefully your Net Worth increases weren’t as frozen as the weather was! Our savings have finally started to heat up a bit after a slow start to the year. Let’s ‘ave a butchers shall we…?
(Oh and sorry for the horrendous “pun” – if you can even call it that – in the blog post title. It’s cos of Cheltenham init? There was lot’s of matched betting being done… get it now? No? Apologies once again)
